Sex and Porn Addiction: A Basic Course in Differential Diagnosis and Treatment Planning Workshop

Sexually compulsive and addictive behavior have become a common presenting problem for today’s clinician, whether it emerges in the form of pornography addiction, use of “hook up” apps, or emerges as part of marital conflict. Dr. Adams will discuss the current state of the field of compulsive sexual behavior and pornography addiction, including the most up-to-date research and information on diagnosis, etiology, and treatment. The systemic impact on the family will also be briefly addressed including the traumatic impact of this behavior on partners and treating the family using a relational paradigm.
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe new research on the diagnosis of sexually compulsive and addictive behavior.
- Discuss new research on pornography addiction.
- Explain the role of trauma and attachment disruption as etiological factors in the development of compulsive and addictive sexual behavior.
- Explain the key differences between treating sex addiction and sex offending.
- Discuss the complexities of differential diagnosis with this population.
- Explain common co-morbidities and how they influence treatment.
- Identify a partner’s common responses to discovery of sexual addiction in their relationship.
- Utilize some therapeutic strategies for assisting couples that have been traumatized by sexual addiction.

Cancellation Policy: For a full refund, a written cancellation notice must be received by IITAP no later than 30 days prior to the scheduled event. Cancellations received less than 30 days prior to the scheduled event will be refunded less a $25 cancellation fee. No refund will be given as of the day of the scheduled event.
