CodependencyCodependency is a term used to describe a pattern of behavior that leaves one feeling overly dependent on others for your self-esteem and undervaluing yourself. According to Melody Beattie behaviors often associated with codependency include caretaking, low self-worth, obsession, repression, controlling, denial, dependency, poor communication, weak boundaries, anger and sexual problems. The symptoms often begin in childhood in an effort to survive family dysfunction. The term codependency is often used to describe spouses of sex addicts (and other addicts).

However, we are sensitive to the fact that the betrayal of trust associated with the sexual addiction of a spouse or partner can by itself produce traumatic symptoms of vigilance, uncontrollable anger, and increased dependency and low self-worth. We work carefully with each client to ensure accurate sorting of their struggles so that they can receive the best fit for their recovery of their self-worth.
