Judy Norwood, LMSW, ACSW, LMFT is a licensed clinical social worker and marriage and family therapist, having received her Masters degree in Social Work from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan in 1964.

Judith held clinical, supervisory and directorship positions in psychiatric, medical and educational settings prior to establishing her full-time private practice in 1976. In 1981 she co-founded the first comprehensive outpatient program for adult children from alcoholic-addictive families in Michigan, an approach that integrated her post-graduate trainings in the psychodynamics of the individual, family systems theory and addiction medicine. She was awarded recognition for these efforts by the MichiganChapter of the National Council on Alcoholism. She is also a founding board member of the Michigan chapter of ACA-ACOA, the National Association of Children of Alcoholics.

In the early 1980's she was invited by Patrick Carnes, PhD to bea participant in his core training sessions in the understanding and treatment of sexual addiction and co-sexual addiction. She also trained his in-patient treatment staff in the dynamics of family origin in the development of addictions.

As an associate with Kennth M. Adams, Ph.D. and the Sexual Health and Addiction Program, offering services for intimacy-based disorders, her specialty continues to be focused on addressing the needs of the family members, spouse or significant other. She sees this role as her highest professional achievement and the final piece in a simple cycle of life as a daughter of an alcoholic parent.
